Developing Character in Young People

I just got back from an intense three-day training character development seminar by the Josephson Institute. The course provided strategies and materials for developing character in young people. It was based on the CHARACTER COUNTS! approach to character education, which focuses on the Six Pillars of Character, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. It was an excellent seminar, and I’ve got a lot to digest.

Now I have to begin the process of incorporating what I have learned into the programming I offer. I will be putting together programs designed specifically for school assemblies. I’ll also be developing Christian-based character development programs for use in places like kid’s camps. I’ll let you know when the programs are ready to go.

If you’re interested in helping young people learn to develop character, you should check out the CHARACTER COUNTS! web site at www.CharacterCounts.org. It has a lot of ideas, resources, statistics, and other helpful information.
